Niskayuna - John "Jack" Foley Nace, 96, a very good, caring, smart and wise man, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 30, 2017 at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Jack was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 19, 1920, a son of Paul Cleveland and Sarah Regina Nace. Jack attended Brooklyn Prepatory School Class of 1937; University of Notre Dame Class of 1941, Mechanical Engineering; Stevens Institute of Technology Class of 1957, Nuclear Engineering. Jack went to work for General Electric Company in July 1941, where he remained until retiring in 1989. During his career, Jack held positions as Test Engineer, Service Engineer Supervisor at New York Naval Yard servicing GE equipment on damaged ship during WW II. In 1948 he was assigned as Lead Thermal Power System Engineer to "Seawolf Project", GE's first nuclear submarine and first submarine to use a steam power plant. Jack also held positions as Manager of Thermal and Mechanical Systems, Manager of Marine Propulsion System Sales and Engineering and Manager of MDFS&O Applications Engineering. Throughout his career he received numerous awards and patents and presented a number of technical papers. He was a member of the Naval Architects Society and Marine Engineers. Jack was predeceased by his wife, partner and best friend of 66 years Mary (Wallingford). He is survived by his children who can only hope to be as good a person as he was, John, Patricia, Tim (Lisa) and Kathleen (Stephen) Hall and grandchildren, Lindsey, Benjamin and Nathaniel. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A graveside service will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. A special thanks from the family to the staff of all departments at Baptist Health and to Dr. Michael Mulvaney and his great team at Dermatologic Surgery of Albany for the care, comfort and support they provided Jack.
