Obituary of Helen Savoie

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen was born in Albany and worked as a bookkeeper at Albany Felt Company. She married in Albany in 1957 and moved to Schenectady in 1963 to raise her family, where she remained for the rest of her life, until she entered Glendale Nursing Home in 2016, where she passed away after battling several health issues for many years. The family thanks the staff there for the exemplary support and care they gave her. Her religion was always the strong pillar of her life. She was actively involved in St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church as a Eucharistic minister, a CCD teacher, a church bazaar coordinator, and a member of the Rosary Society. She also spent many years as an Avon representative, a member of the Schenectady Home Bureau, and a Cub Scout den leader for both of her sons, a period stretching over 17 years. She loved Helen Steiner Rice and Erma Bombeck books, ocean waves, talking to people, baking, and chocolate, but the joy of her life was her family. Whether she was raising her children, entertaining her grandchildren later on, or just enjoying the many visitors she received at Glendale Nursing Home, she was always living her best life at those times. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward Wilfred; her son, Edward Michael (Bertha); her daughter, Marie Weatherby (Daniel Escajeda); her son Joseph (Shirley Ann); twelve grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and another great granddaughter due in June. She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Nancy Bartley (Kevin). She will be missed by all who knew her, as a deeply caring person, who was always ready to help or pray for anyone who needed it. Our world is a little grayer now without her in it, but heaven has gained a beautiful new angel. Calling hours will be held Wednesday at St. Luke's Church in Schenectady from 12-1 p.m., with funeral services immediately following at the church at 1 p.m. The family would ask that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Boys Town (www.boystown.org) in Helen's name.
