Guilderland Paul Pagiotas, 1930-2023 On Sunday October 22 2023 Paul died suddenly at home with his wife of 65 years beside him. Paul was born and raised in NY City and he served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952 as a draftsman and aircraft mechanic. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering at New York University in 1959. At NYU Paul met the love of his life. Their romance was forged at coffee shops and dancing to big bands. An accomplished Professional Engineer, Paul retired from General Electric Knolls Atomic Power Lab in 1993 after 25 years in nuclear engineering. Prior to that he worked in aeronautic, mechanical, and electrical engineering positions, relocating cross country with his young family from NY City to Connecticut, Ohio, and Nevada, before settling in the Capital Region in 1967 until his death. He was known for his love of agronomy, helping his community as a volunteer fireman (West Glenville), creativity, fun-loving sense of humor, attention to detail, and solving difficult problems. He was an active parishioner of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, serving as a councilman, Bingo caller, Souvlaki Chef, member of the choir, and first person on the dance floor. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, woodworking, and genealogy. He is survived by his wife Joann Peterson Pagiotas; daughters Elizabeth (Barry) Donovan and Anastasia (Brian) Donovan; son John Paul Pagiotas (Elizabeth Lopez); Grandchildren Larissa Donovan, Trevor Donovan, Brendan Donovan, Ariadne Donovan, Orion Pagiotas, and Aiden Pagiotas; great grandchildren Logan Castonguay, and Brigid Callagan; and beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Sophie Pagiotas Tasolides, and his parents, Evterpy Anthemidou Pagiotas and John Apostolos Pagiotas. Great appreciation to the staff at Peregrine Guilderland Senior Living, the Stratton VA Medical Center, and the many excellent care providers in the community who supported Paul's health and well-being.
